SIAB XC Championships – 22nd March – Callander Park, Falkirk, Scotland
After their fine performances at the ESAA XC Champs last weekend at Ardingly, three Kent Schools athletes (Freddie Gibson, Joe Scanes and Sophie Richmond) were selected to represent England in the Home Countries International on Saturday 22nd March, in Scotland.
In the Inter Boys event over 6k England achieved a perfect 21 score with runners filling all the positions from 1st to 6th. Joe, who finished 5th at Ardingly, finished a place higher in England’s clean sweep, coming home in 4th.
In the Inter Girls over 4k, Sophie who has another year in this age group, also finished 4th. An Irish athlete was a clear winner, but Sophie was in a trio of English athletes who all finished within a second of each other. Again England were clear team winners with 26 pts, and Ireland 2nd with 73.
The third Kent athlete Freddie was part of the 4x2k relay team who finished 1st, but were unfortunately disqualified as the runners at the first changeover failed to touch hands.
Well done to all three. Once again you did Kent proud.

ESAA Combined Event Championships 2024 – 21st/22nd September – Stoke-on-Trent
KSAA sent a strong team of 15 combined eventers to Stoke-on-Trent for the ESAA Championships, all who had previously qualified via the South East Regional round in June.
The weather was horrendous for the entire 48 hours and this meant that the final Junior Boys event (the 800m) and the Seniors Boys High Jump and 400m had to be cancelled, due to thunder and lightning. This meant the strong Junior Boys team were unable to fully contend for the Team gold medal and had to settle for second place, with Toby Gwinnell winning an individual Bronze medal and he also gained selection for the England Schools’ representative team which will contest the home countries international in Glasgow in November.
Toby Gwinnell 3rd
Kai Rogan 12th
Thomas Webb 24th
Alfie Walach 26th
Toby will be joined in Glasgow by Sam Newton who easily won the Inter Boys Octathlon in a score that ranks him number 1 in the country and top 20 on the all time list.
Sam Newton 1st 5353pnts
Harry Wickers 12th 4453pnts
The curtailed Senior Boys Decathlon saw Dante McNichol secure a top five finish, with Joe Stone performing well after an injury hit season.
Dante McNichol 5th
Joe Stone 10th
Reef Page (withdrew after 6 events)
The Junior Girls braved the wet conditions and represented Kent proudly while Inter Ella Thomas hit several personal bests in her Heptathlon score of 4329 points

The six Kent athletes who gained International honours at the previous weeks ESAA Championships, took part in the SIAB International match on the 20th July in Wales. Representing English Schools, they competed against athletes from Welsh, Scottish and Irish schools
The conditions looked less than ideal with wind and rain falling for most of the day. Nevertheless, the six athletes did themselves and their country proud.
